Welcome to my blog where I can share my journey with you! I am a Licensed Parelli Professional Two Star Junior Instructor. Here you can read about my experiences with Parelli Natural Horsemanship, my personal horsemanship journey, and my journey with being a Parelli Instructor. I hope to inspire and empower you with my quest for never ending self improvement. I have been studying Parelli for 11 years and am an official Level 3 graduate. I am studying Level 4 with my two horses, Max and Savannah. I grew up riding horses the traditional way and was in the United States Pony Club for 12 years, where I competed in Eventing and Dressage. My first introduction to Parelli was with my pony, who at the time was not a problem horse. I've had my andalusian mare, Savannah for 7 years now and after 2 years of struggling with her while not using Parelli methods, I knew I had to change something. I have been doing Parelli with her for the past 5 years and graduated Level 3 with her fall 2010. In the Spring of 2010 I received Max from Kelly Sigler. I owe it to my two amazing horses, as I would not be where I am now without them, they are my greatest teachers. The journey so far with Parelli has been fun, fulfilling, challenging, and life changing.

Makeover Time!

If you're wondering what has happened to my blog, it is in the process of a makeover. Thanks to Mariah Helms for helping me with improving it. :-)

Wow! Today was awesome! It did rain all day but we were lucky to be inside all day. It is the second week of the Two Star instructor course and the externs who were in the One Star course are joining in on the two star course this week.

We started off the day with Linda's presentation on FREESTYLE vs. FINESSE. It was very informative and educational. Linda talked about these two savvies and how they are two completely different ways of riding, they should not be thought of as being similar.

FREESTYLE
Casual or no reins, and with one hand

Looking for..
-Independent seat
-Relaxation
-Responsibility
-Confidence

FINESSE
Concentrated reins, with one or two hands

Looking for...
-Precision
-Refinement
-Contact
-Shaping and Balancing

Riding in finesse will improve your riding because it teaches you how to use your core.

In the afternoon Linda did another presentation for us on FEAR.

She made it clear how the #1 mistake made when it comes to fear is when a person gets on even when they know they shouldn't because of fear. The #2 biggest mistake is for the instructor to push them to get on.

The more you know and understand Right Brain Introvert horses, the more you will be able to understand people who have fear issues with horses. They need to be treated like RBI's. Take it slow, lots of retreat, give them choices, and honor their choices.

Fear is not about being afraid to ride the horse, it's about self respect.

Whenever you feel emotional about being around your horse or riding your horse, retreat. Go back to where you felt calm, then approach your fear again. It will take a lot of approach and retreat to overcome your fear, take your time.

KNOWLEDGE = CONFIDENCE

Tomorrow WALTER ZETTL will be here teaching lessons!! We will be auditing the lessons in the morning! It is going to be one awesome day!
