Welcome to my blog where I can share my journey with you! I am a Licensed Parelli Professional Two Star Junior Instructor. Here you can read about my experiences with Parelli Natural Horsemanship, my personal horsemanship journey, and my journey with being a Parelli Instructor. I hope to inspire and empower you with my quest for never ending self improvement. I have been studying Parelli for 11 years and am an official Level 3 graduate. I am studying Level 4 with my two horses, Max and Savannah. I grew up riding horses the traditional way and was in the United States Pony Club for 12 years, where I competed in Eventing and Dressage. My first introduction to Parelli was with my pony, who at the time was not a problem horse. I've had my andalusian mare, Savannah for 7 years now and after 2 years of struggling with her while not using Parelli methods, I knew I had to change something. I have been doing Parelli with her for the past 5 years and graduated Level 3 with her fall 2010. In the Spring of 2010 I received Max from Kelly Sigler. I owe it to my two amazing horses, as I would not be where I am now without them, they are my greatest teachers. The journey so far with Parelli has been fun, fulfilling, challenging, and life changing.

Walter Zettl lessons, Bridle Wisdom, and Humanality

Yesterday we started the day off watching Walter Zettl teach lessons. His first student of the day was Amy Bowers riding Sapphire. Her lesson was fascinating and inspiring. She has done such an amazing job with her horse, and it really shined through yesterday. Walter mentioned in her lesson how important the basics are and riding Grand Prix starts at the lowest level. The next lesson was Linda on Westpoint. It was interesting to watch how she dealt with him being unconfident and then keeping his interest. She went with him and used approach/retreat to gain his confidence with the scary audience. Then once he was more confident, she used the variety of leaving the arena every now and then to keep his interest in her and what they were doing. What a magnificent mover he is! The third lesson was Lauren Barwick on her new and GORGEOUS horse, Fergi. It was only her third ride on her, and of course she rode her beautifully! The horse has been trained through 4th Level and you could definitely see the upper level potential in the horse. Just gorgeous! Pat was the last person we were able to see ride and he was riding Vision. Sadly we were not able to see his whole lesson because the two star group, including externs and interns had to meet in the classroom.

John Baar gave us an excellent presentation on Bridle Wisdom with the Parelli Program. He explained all the different headstalls/bits that are used and why.

He discussed..

Webbed Halter vs. Rope Halter

H1- Natural Hackamore

H2- Flexible Bosal

H3- Full Bosal

Sweet Iron Snaffle

Comfort/Confidence Snaffle

Cradle Bridle

Jaquima

Bridle 2 and 3

and Pat's Bits

In the afternoon we had a presentation by Patrick Hanley on Humanality. It was extremely interesting and cleared up so many questions I had about humanality. There will be more info to come for Parelli Lovers on this subject :-)
