Welcome to my blog where I can share my journey with you! I am a Licensed Parelli Professional Two Star Junior Instructor. Here you can read about my experiences with Parelli Natural Horsemanship, my personal horsemanship journey, and my journey with being a Parelli Instructor. I hope to inspire and empower you with my quest for never ending self improvement. I have been studying Parelli for 11 years and am an official Level 3 graduate. I am studying Level 4 with my two horses, Max and Savannah. I grew up riding horses the traditional way and was in the United States Pony Club for 12 years, where I competed in Eventing and Dressage. My first introduction to Parelli was with my pony, who at the time was not a problem horse. I've had my andalusian mare, Savannah for 7 years now and after 2 years of struggling with her while not using Parelli methods, I knew I had to change something. I have been doing Parelli with her for the past 5 years and graduated Level 3 with her fall 2010. In the Spring of 2010 I received Max from Kelly Sigler. I owe it to my two amazing horses, as I would not be where I am now without them, they are my greatest teachers. The journey so far with Parelli has been fun, fulfilling, challenging, and life changing.

LS Ranch- Week One

Wow!! What a week! I'm so lucky to be able to update my blog today, it's very difficult with no phone service or internet on the ranch.. so please bare with me.

Kailaan and I arrived last Sunday and settled Savannah in. She was first turned out into a 20 acre pasture to adjust to the new environment. Then within 2 days or so she was turned out in the 250 acre pasture. She is doing great so far and seems to be really enjoying the "ranch life".

Jody Ellis was here the first few days of the week, but Dave was at a clinic in Pennsylvania. The horses in my string are Savannah, a friesian named Zekos and an LS Ranch horse (appendix) named Ricky. Jody helped me quite a bit the first few days with the two ranch horses. Zekos has trouble with his left lead and she helped me with that my first ride on him. Ever since then his opposition reflex is improving and he is trying harder to get his left lead. Jody also helped me with Ricky, and asking for transitions more subtly with my body and being effective with him.

Dave got back last night and Jody is now at a clinic. Today was my first day riding with Dave here. I rode Savannah first and then Ricky. Learning so much already! This afternoon Dave and the crew went to pick up a colt who isn't started yet and had never been in a trailer or left the piece of property he was born at. It was very interesting to watch Dave work with him and load him on the trailer!! Just can't believe how much I'm already learning! So excited for everything that's to come. I'll try and keep everyone updated when I get the chance to.

Naturally,
Sarah

  1. Hi Sarah! A quick hello and wishes for a successful, great time with Dave & Jody. They started my mare, Beauty - and did wonders for her. She was at LS Ranch twice for a couple months each and we are reaping the benefits as she is a solid, wonderful mount now. Good luck with your journey - I'll be following your blog! Say Hey to Dave & Jody for me. :) Arlene Mohebbi
