Welcome to my blog where I can share my journey with you! I am a Licensed Parelli Professional Two Star Junior Instructor. Here you can read about my experiences with Parelli Natural Horsemanship, my personal horsemanship journey, and my journey with being a Parelli Instructor. I hope to inspire and empower you with my quest for never ending self improvement. I have been studying Parelli for 11 years and am an official Level 3 graduate. I am studying Level 4 with my two horses, Max and Savannah. I grew up riding horses the traditional way and was in the United States Pony Club for 12 years, where I competed in Eventing and Dressage. My first introduction to Parelli was with my pony, who at the time was not a problem horse. I've had my andalusian mare, Savannah for 7 years now and after 2 years of struggling with her while not using Parelli methods, I knew I had to change something. I have been doing Parelli with her for the past 5 years and graduated Level 3 with her fall 2010. In the Spring of 2010 I received Max from Kelly Sigler. I owe it to my two amazing horses, as I would not be where I am now without them, they are my greatest teachers. The journey so far with Parelli has been fun, fulfilling, challenging, and life changing.

Instructor Course continues...

Another AWESOME day today!! Got up early around 5am, to get myself ready and take care of my two horses. The externs met with Berin at 7am for a quick meeting before the two star group came over to observe our morning session. We started off with touch rugby, which went a lot better than previous times. Both the externs and interns played and it was pretty intense. After some warmup fun, we tacked up our horses, warmed up online and then had a freestyle lesson with Berin. We rode follow the rail with walk and trot transitions, adding in lateral flexion towards the fence and some partial disengagement to help with relaxation and transitions. Today was Max's second day in the group session. He was such a good boy! What a relief to be on him over Savannah with all the bright rain coats, people, and umbrellas everywhere. Max started off quite introverted in the walk, which is a whole new world for him. His trot had definitely improved since yesterday and he had more relaxation. At times while following the rail he would stop while we were walking and get stuck!... so funny! He went from one extreme to the other. With passive persistence in the proper position I was able to get him to walk... and he did this quite a few times too.

After our lesson Linda talked to us about "Fix What First Game". We did simulations where one person would pose and another person had to copy them. Then we would fix the person first using only 3 corrections, then using only 1 correction. This was to teach us to look at things as a whole and fix what makes the biggest difference first... don't worry about the little things.

Pat also talked to us this afternoon about the Parelli Foundation and Parelli Connect. Some of the topics he talked about was volunteering for Rescues, and how us as instructors can be a part of Rescues and helping the HandiCap with riding. It was very inspirational! Ann Kiser then ended the day talking about Parelli Connect. Ann and Carole Coppinger gave a power point presentation about Parelli Connect and some of the ins and outs about it.

After our long and exciting day, we went out to dinner with a friend who is leaving to go back home tomorrow. Then tucked our ponies in for the night. Tomorrow is going to be another fun and super exciting day!!! Lots happening here at Parelli to help make the world a better place for horses and humans!
